Can you put your smart phone down?

Today, most of us, use our smartphones and tablets more than we would care to admit.  It is an addiction.  It is like we feel, as if we always need to be checking it. We do not want to miss a thing. I am guilty as charged.   Have you ever noticed at a restaurant if two people are eating together, and one of them gets up to use the restroom, instantly the person sitting at the table pulls out their phone?  As a society, we are addicted.

Unfortunately, “smart’” devices are destroying many lives through pornography, gambling, and connecting with the wrong people.  In 2011, more than a third of divorce filings contained a word that was related to social media.  I was blown away to read that around 60 to 70 percent of Christian men view pornography monthly.  No doubt, like the TV, the internet can been used for much good, but it is actually destroying many lives.

Got nothing against the television, if it's used for God's program, all right. It was God's way in the first way. Who made the airwaves and so forth? But the devil just took it and perverted it.                                                                                                                          – Bro. William Branham

Technology is here to stay.  It is so embedded in our lives.  I work for a company that would not exist if it was not for technology.  I love the ability to be able to text a friend across the world or to be able to get exact directions to somewhere I am going. It is nice for my children to be able to facetime their grandparents who live several hours away.

Can good come out of technology?  I believe so.  Technology within itself is neutral, like a gun.  It can be used for good or for evil.  Unfortunately, technology is being used for evil much more than for good.  The device itself is not the blame, it is the user and Satan’s cunning ways. Have you ever noticed how most sin feeds into the realm of curiosity?  The internet is no exception.

Do not trust yourself nor your family in navigating upon the road of the internet and social media by themselves.  Within yourself, you are not strong enough.  We should place as many safeguards as possible to protect ourselves and our families.  If we ever needed the Lord to watch over us and  protect us from the snares of satan it sure is now.

As with anything, if it is destroying your life, my advice would be to get rid of it.  It is not worth it.

MichaelfaceMichael and his wife Crista, are blessed to have three children (Noah, Gracie, Luke). They live in the middle TN area and attend Eagle Christian church. He counts it a honor to be involved with Eagle’s View, BYC and serving as a evangelist. They enjoy being outdoors, traveling and above all serving the Lord.
