Devotional – Just be yourself

Isaiah 64:8 “But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”

“No two snowflakes are exactly alike.” Have you ever heard this before? Actually, all snowflakes are made from the same compound material. For instance, the elementary particles are exactly the same, such as the electrons that make up an atom. When multiplied together, however, there are millions and trillions of ways for them to be shaped. “Why does this matter?” you might wonder.

Every single snowflake is different from the other, yet they are all made by exactly the same elementary particles. Just as human beings are all made by the same dust of the earth and the same particles, we are each vastly unique and extraordinary individuals. David knew, and we should know also, that a person is fearfully and wonderfully made by the Lord. Psalm 139:14

God is the potter and you are the clay. So what business does the clay have saying to the potter, “Why have you made me this way or why did you mold me that way?” You were specifically designed, shaped, and molded by a Potter who loves and cares for you in an indescribable way. Sometimes, we reap the consequences of poor decisions on our parts, and they can only be fixed by making the right steps today and sowing the right seeds. But sometimes, there are things about ourselves that God placed there and we can’t change them.

The way you were made, the way you look, the way you sing and the way you speak were all chosen by God.

Don’t try to impersonate someone else, don’t try to impersonate a Christian, and especially don’t try to impersonate a spiritual person. Just let the Holy Spirit use you the way He wants to. Just be yourself, because God didn’t create you like others. He fearfully and wonderfully hand crafted you.

Ponder over the ways you are different from others today. Think, “What about me can be more like Christ, and what about me do I need to be content with and stop worrying about?”  Remember, He is the Potter and you are the clay.

And we mustn't try to impersonate anyone. Just be what you are, see, and that's the way God made you. You never fashioned yourself. And, remember, as much as we ministers would like to take Billy Graham's place, we cannot do it, neither can Billy Graham take our place. See, we, each one has something to do. The common little fellow here that may be a janitor, the little woman that may be a housewife, the greatest minister on the face of the earth today could not take your place. You, God had a purpose in making you what you are, and you just serve God in that way that He made you. See? And I think, if we would just do that, the wheels would roll a lot easier. Yes, it would, if we would do that, not get lifted up.    – Brother William Branham
