Moments: Letting go

By Crista Tidwell

When I began my journey into motherhood, my thought of becoming a mother was of all the things I would gain and wonderful memories to be made.  My goal in life was always to marry a christian man and be a mother.  I am blessed to say that has all happened.  The beginning days
of being a mother, were filled with so many new things and responsibilities that I all enjoyed.  By the time, Michael and I had our second child, I was beginning to realize what motherhood, or even parenting, is all about.  Quite honestly, the reality of it was very sad.  We focus sometimes so much on all the first things our children do, that we forget sometimes it is the last time they will do something.  Such as, momentscristakidsthe last time we will help feed them, the last time they will need our help tying their shoes, the last time they will need us to hold their hand to cross the street, the last time we will read them a book goodnight, and someday the last time they will need us to drive them somewhere.  My thought of motherhood is all about letting go…..

As I begin this journey, I am trusting God to help me let go at the right time.

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 19:14

    Sis. Crista,

This reminds me of an event a family at church had this past weekend. At a birthday party, a young boy of about 7 years told his mother he could take care of getting his plate of food. He also told his mom that it appeared there wasn't enough room for her at the party.  He did not say this disrespectfully, but rather to indicate that he felt he was old enough to take care of himself.
