When the children of Israel heard the priests sound the alarm of war by the trumpets, Israel prepared themselves to fight against their enemies and arranged them selves for the battle. Then the priest would address the warriors on the battlefield as to inspire their hearts to be fearless and have courage! Such an address was given for the purpose of motivating the hearts of the soldiers to trust God who promised to fight their battles and give them total victory no matter what the odds or circumstances.
Deuteronomy 20:1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, 3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; 4 For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
There are also many other examples in the bible where leaders preached hope, faith, and courage, thereby enkindling the spirits of the armies of God and bringing about great and miraculous victories. One story in particular I wish to bring to the readers attention, carries a great lesson that will apply to the believers in the hour in which we live. The story begins in the days of king David, when he was in the zenith of his reign. God seemed to bless everything that David touched and he was steadily growing in power. It came to pass that Nahash the king of Ammon died and Hanun his son then took the throne. David wanted to extend kindness to Hanun because of the loss of his father. The princes of the children of Hanun suggested that David did not want to honor his father but rather he wanted to spy out the land and overthrow it. Hanun then took David’s servants and shaved off one half of their beards and cut their garments as to reveal their backsides and humiliate them and then sent them back to David. Naturally David was insulted and enraged at the mistreatment of his messengers. David then sent his general Joab and the entire host of the mighty men to fight against Ammon. Ammon knew that David was furious and he hired the Syrians to help him fight against the armies of Israel.
When the two fighting forces met, Joab and his brother Abishai arranged their armies and prepared them for the battle. Joab then gives an address to the warriors of Israel and speaks these inspiring words,
1Chronicles 19:13 Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.
Another account of Joab’s speech reads like this,
2Samuel 10:12 Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
In other words he says, “Be strong, and let us be strong for our people, for our family’s, for our children, for our God and for the cities of our God.” “Be strong ye sons of God.”
When the battle commenced the Syrians fled before the armies of Israel and in the end Ammon was defeated and God caused Israel to triumph. One great lesson that can be learned from this story is this, the Syrians had no spirit to fight simply because they were paid fighters who lacked a true purpose or conviction to fight. The armies of Israel were different, they were not fighting for pay or reward but rather they were fighting for a much greater cause and that cause was worth fighting for and even dying for. This is why they fought like inspired men giving all of their strength and might to defend and preserve their God given nation, their people and their religion. They understood their mission and it burned in their souls while they waged war against their enemies that sought to rob them of these liberties. And greater yet, Israel’s cause was God’s cause and they were fighting God’s battles! As long as Israel served their Lord then God assisted his armies in their warfare and gave them total victory over every enemy!
Paul writes very similar military words to the Christian soldier of the New Testament.
1Corinthians 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Of course every Christian man or woman is called to be a soldier (2 Timothy 2:3-4).
In every age when a message went forth it started a spiritual war. We know that we are engaged in a war and in fact it is the Greatest Battle ever fought. We are in the greatest battle and the last battle of this kind as this is the last age is quickly closing. This is an address to the end time believers who believe the end time message.
The messenger of this age has come and sounded the trumpet in our age. The believers have heard and have assembled themselves to war. My brothers and sister’s both young and old alike, this is now our turn to unsheathe the sword and fight.
David before he defeated the giant asked the question, “is there not a cause?” (I Samuel 17:29) There is simply no spirit to fight when one does not understand the great cause that he or she is fighting for. The Syrians fled because they were employed to fight and were half hearted in battle. They simply had no real or true objective that they were fighting for. But how different was Israel in battle that knew that their families and future were depending on them. The future of Israel rested upon their actions and decisions. We simply cannot win this end time battle as half hearted or double minded believers. Let us understand our mission and the holy cause for which we are fighting!
Our fathers had a great vision and they fought and gave their lives for the great purpose that their children might be free. We are those children whom they fought for and bled for. We have enjoyed our freedom’s that was purchased with our father’s blood. And now our actions and decisions will determine our children’s future whether they will be free in Christ or become slaves to sin and unbelief. All believers must fully understand the cause that we are fighting for and must understand what is at stake. Our future is at stake! Our souls are stake! Our family’s are at stake! Our children are at stake!
The gates of hell have been opened wide and Satan has come in upon our age like a flood. The powers of darkness have poured in and satanic influences are swallowing the earth. Entertainments, fashion, lawlessness, godlessness, perversions, chaos and disorder have covered the land. And even more subtle enemies have come upon us such as the cares of this life and the demands of life that it takes to maintain our lifestyles.
Is there not a cause to fight? The Internet is nearly in every home and on nearly every telephone and is a thousand times more dangerous than a television. This age now has access to every unimaginable evil right at our very fingertips. “Oh,” how many thousands of poor souls will be plundered by pornography? How many marriages will be wrecked, and how many marriage vows will be broken? How many spouses will be betrayed and how many homes will be separated? How many children will be devastated and how many hearts will be crushed? How many will be entangled in this virtual web of lusts and will give up hope of ever being delivered? Satan has now invented his machine to feed the unclean with an inexhaustible resource of picture and images. The lust of the eye can never be satisfied and a lustful man’s life is squandered and brought to destruction in his pursuit to quench his abominable thirst! The bible tells us also that hell is never full as it awaits these poor souls that have been ensnared by these unclean spirits of perverted passions! Satan desensitizes the heart by exposing men and women to sinful images and pictures contaminating their souls with unbelief. This venom of the serpent poisons the soul with dishonesty, disloyalty, lust, selfishness and perversion. It grieves the Holy Spirit and paralyzes the individual’s faith while obscuring the realities of God. Satan, lurking in the unseen world, now preys upon the minds of children and teenagers, to expose them to unthinkable evils to mold and pervert their vulnerable young lives at an early age before they have a chance. Oh, Be strong ye parents, fight for your children’s souls. Oh be strong ye preachers, and sound the trumpet from your pulpits! Homosexuality is sweeping the land, perverting both males and females. Young men with shaggy hair, bracelets, limp wrists and skinny jeans do not realize that Satan is perverting their very character. Women are influenced by modern fashions as to dress in a way that will incite lust rather than to reflect holiness. (The writer of this address wants to make clear to the reader that He is not strictly condemning the use of the internet but rather he wants to be a voice of warning to the lax, the undiscerning and the unsuspecting.) I ask you, what will those without the Holy Ghost do? How will our children ever escape being exposed to these vile corruptions? Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved. “Come out of her my people.” Separate your self to God before it is too late! The Internet is only one of many dangers in this hour. Satan has bombarded this age with magazines, radio, music, education, books, video games and entertainments. We seem to look out numbered. Satan has sent these attacks to intimidate and to weary, and to lower the morale of God’s people.
The earth is like a boiling cauldron and the very atmospheres of the earth are strangely agitated. There is political disturbance upon the earth. The earth is in a financial meltdown. Prophecy is being fulfilled before our eyes. Everyone is fighting for rights while the attitude towards the Christian believer is becoming more and more hostile. The world is in a Sodom condition and ripe for the judgment. As the prophet said “the world is falling apart!” Satanic forces besiege the earth and the tribulation period is about to begin. Though we know not what 2013 holds, we know whom we have believed and we know He is leading us on!
