Most times work involves cleaning. Most housework includes cleaning the house. I suppose of all the activities most people would rather participate in cleaning the house is not on proverbial list of ‘exciting things to do’. Did you ever stop to consider another type of house cleaning humankind does not like to do? No…I’m not talking about the dishes…but the house cleaning of self. The Bible says,
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (KJV, I Corinthians, Chapter 3, Verses 16-17).
It is important to take a personal inventory of what condition our spiritual house is in. Here is a great example,
“And it behooves us to check up now, to find out where we’re standing. We’re in the end time. No time for playing; it’s time now to get right, and be sure that you’re right. If you went to the–down here somewhere to the grocery, or down to the restaurant, and you bought a bowl of soup, and it had a fly in it, you’d send it back; you sure wouldn’t take it. You’re watching what you are putting this body, but you’ll put anything in that soul, no matter what it is, any kind of a dogma or a doctrine. But you’d better check up with the pure unadulterated Word of God, and find out whether you’re really in the right category or not” (Branham, W. The True and False Vine, Macon Georgia, June 7, 1955, Para 22).
So to keep clean before the Lord is an important part of our ‘spiritual house cleaning’. The Scripture records, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (KJV, John, Chapter 15, Verse 3).
